It has become easier to get higher grades on the aptitude test that applicants for police training must do. In practice, the talent requirements for becoming a police officer have thus been lowered further, reports Swedish Radio Ekot.
The country’s police training has had a hard time filling its seats. As early as 2016, the requirement was reduced from a four to a three on the aptitude test, which is graded on a nine-point scale.
It still takes a third to enter police training, but after 19 years, the reference group with which new students are compared has been replaced, which has meant that only 16 percent have not reached the requirement this year, compared to 26.5 percent in previous years. .
– After a certain time, when a certain number of years have passed, you should compare yourself with the normal population in different ways. We have done that. We have upgraded our entrance exams in several different ways, which means that some things can make more people come in, some can make fewer people come in, says National Police Chief Anders Thornberg to Ekot.
