The first Russian soldier to stand trial for war crimes in Ukraine apologizes.
“I know you will not be able to forgive me, but I still ask for forgiveness,” the 21-year-old man said at the trial.
He addressed the wife of the 62-year-old civilian man he is accused of killing during the first days of the war.
Prosecutors believe the soldier, who is charged with war crimes and murder, should be sentenced to life in prison. Several other Russian soldiers are expected to stand trial in Ukraine soon.
