A coronary heart disease patient who suffered from chest pain, and was sent home without being examined, later died of what turned out to be a heart attack, Sundsvalls Tidning reports.
The incident has been reported to the Swedish Health and Care Inspectorate, Ivo, according to lex Maria.
It was in the spring of 2021 that the patient was treated for covid-19 at Sundsvall Hospital. When the chest pain appeared, the medical staff did not take blood samples or do an ECG. Instead, the patient was sent home in the belief that the pain had to do with covid-19 or the patient’s cough.
The next night, the patient returned to the hospital and was then diagnosed with an acute heart attack and died shortly thereafter.
An internal investigation has shown that routines have not been followed and therefore an action plan has been drawn up.
