In today’s world of rapid change and short attention spans, it’s rare to find a local example of tradition and continuity. The centenary celebration of the Victoria Club of Woodstock, originally founded by a group of business and professional men in 1921, proves endurance is indeed possible.

The essence of the venerable Victoria Club is the research and discussion of topics relevant to our changing world shared between a group of 24 active members.

“For the past century we have welcomed new male members who can commit to the values and traditions of the club while enjoying the company of their peers, many of whom have been part of the club for decades. The rewards are primarily in learning, vibrant debate and fellowship in a non-partisan environment,” club president Bruce Burbank said.

Although tradition is a core club value, the meeting format has evolved to accommodate changes to local demographics and ethnicity. The 12-meeting annual season has been held virtually during the pandemic and a return to the in-person format for the 2022-2023 season is anticipated.

“Our members really missed the sidebar discussions and the body language so important to lively debate over the topics we cover in each meeting. In this regard our centenary celebrated our past achievements and the prospect of a solid future as part of the Woodstock community,” Burbank said.
