Chatham-Kent police caught up to a 30-year-old man accused of spraying someone in the face with bear spray Friday night.
Police said two men were involved in a fight around 8:24 pm, which resulted in the accused allegedly spraying the victim with bear spray.
The accused had left the area when police arrived, but he was located a short time later, and arrested for assault with a weapon, police said.
He was taken to police headquarters and later released with conditions and a short date.
Suspicious person call leads to charges
A 25-year-old Chatham man is facing charges of breaking and entering and theft after Chatham-Kent police responded to a call about a suspicious person in the area of McDowell Line in Harwich Township Friday afternoon.
Information was received that a male was walking in the backyards of residences just after 4 pm while pushing a black motor bike.
Officers arrived to find the motor bike lying in the driveway of a residence. Officers entered the garage and knocked on the door to the residence.
Officers spoke to the homeowner, who said no one should be inside her residence. As officers entered the residence, they heard footsteps stopping, police said.
The accused was located by police service dog Helix in the attached garage, police said.
He was not known to the victim and had no right to be inside the home or garage, police added.
A short time later, police viewed surveillance footage which showed the same male, further up the street, allegedly entering a back yard and stealing the black motor bike, police said.
The accused was arrested for breaking and entering and theft under $5,000. He was taken to police headquarters and held for bail, police said.
All property was recovered by officers and returned to the rightful owner, police said.
