Drivers, commonly referred to as drivers, are the software that manages the support of each device by the operating system. Periodically, manufacturers publish updates to correct security problems (especially in the case of network adapters), provide new features (such as for the graphics card) or improve performance.
Among the programs intended to automate the search, download and installation of drivers, one of them stands out because it is completely free and open source: Snappy Driver Installer.

There are many software for updating drivers, such as Driver Manager Where Driver Booster Free. We also introduced you how to use the latter.
These programs offer a free trial, but they restrict their advanced functionality for paid users. An interesting alternative is Snappy Driver Installer. It is completely free and above all open source. We can therefore give it greater confidence from the point of view of computer security, both in terms of the data analyzed and the origin of the pilots.
Snappy Driver Installer downloads as a ZIP archive that must be unzipped. It offers two versions of theapplication : one in 32 bits and the other in 64 bits. Run the one that matches your system. To check, you can right click on Windows menu, then select “System”. The information is indicated under the heading “System type”. The majority of computers modern are equipped with operating system 64 bits.
At startup, Snappy Driver Installer offers to directly download all the packs of pilots. We recommend that you download only the indexes instead. This is enough for the software to scan the computer and detect outdated drivers. It will then be possible to download only the necessary drivers.
The default interface of Snappy Driver Installer is original and surprising. You can customize it in the left column, choosing a new theme.
Check all the boxes, namely “Create a restore point” and all the drivers for which an update is available. Then click on the big green “Install” button, and let the software automatically download and install any new drivers.
Creating a restore point is important. In the event of a compatibility problem following the update of the drivers, this makes it possible to easily return to the previous state of the system.
Depending on the state of your machine and your Internet connection, this step can take up to several tens of minutes. At the end of the operation, Snappy Driver Installer indicates that the drivers are up to date and displays a flashing “Installation complete” banner.
No manual operation is required, Snappy Driver Installer handles all downloads and installs items without user action. This “fully automatic” functionality is generally paid for in competing software.
What you must remember
- Snappy Driver Installer offers an interface reminiscent of programs from the days of Windows XP. However, it is particularly useful when you want to quickly update all the drivers of a computer station.
