Olympic swimming medalist Matti Mattssonin coach Eetu Karvonen According to Sport’s information, he is becoming the head coach of the Finnish swimming team.

Karvonen defended Mattsson for a 200-meter breaststroke Olympic bronze medal at last year’s Tokyo Olympics.

Executive Director of the Swimming Association Tony Kilponen did not confirm Karvonen’s appointment as head coach.

– We are coming out of these things on May 18, Kilponen comments to Urheilu.

However, Kilponen admitted that the coaching patterns of top Finnish swimming are being renewed.

– We need more hands to coach the national team. I think we have found solutions, but the roles will be clarified next week, Kilponen explained.

The need for change has been identified

Currently working as a coaching manager Tommi Pulkkinen According to Kilponen, the field of work has expanded so wide that the swimming population has experienced the need for change.

– Pulkkinen has developed a regional training system and done things on the training side. So his role has been really extensive, Kilponen explained Pulkkinen’s responsibilities.

Karvonen, 35, has coaching experience both in Finland and around the world. He has worked as a coach for the UAE national team and has also coached in the United States.

In recent years, Karvonen has coached at the Pori Swimming Club and worked as Mattsson’s personal coach.

Karvonen’s own swimming career was successful. He represented Finland in several championships and won 35 Finnish championships.
