The Ministry of Health of Japan has given domestic use permission to the drug “Molnupiravir” to be used orally against Kovid-19.
Accordingly, patients aged 18 years and older with mild symptoms were allowed to use the drug twice a day for 5 days.
Health Minister Goto Shigeyuki announced that the shipment of the drug to health institutions across the country will begin at the beginning of the week.
The Japanese government had previously reached an agreement with the American company for the supply of 1.6 million doses of “Molnupiravir” drug.
Merck company applied to the ministry at the beginning of this month for an emergency use approval for the drug it developed against Kovid-19.
The drug, which was first approved by the UK, was also approved in the USA within a week.
Merck reported that molnupiravir reduces the risk of hospitalization and death by 50 percent in people who have newly contracted the virus.
