The Paris Court of Appeal has ruled. François Fillon was sentenced to four years in prison, including one year, a fine of 375,000 euros and ten years of ineligibility in the file of fictitious jobs for the benefit of his wife Penelope.
French justice ruled this Monday, May 9 for the second time in the case which hit the headlines during the 2017 presidential campaign of right-wing candidate François Fillon. A favorite at first, he was finally eliminated in the first round, overwhelmed by the revelation of suspicions of fictitious jobs concerning his wife, Penelope Fillon.
On appeal, the public prosecutor’s office had requested sentences lower than those pronounced by the court of first instance, which in June 2020, had sentenced the former right-wing presidential candidate to five years in prison, two of which are firm, 375,000 euros fine and ten years of ineligibility.
