In Siberia, in the southern part of the Krasnoyarsk Krai, numerous fires are raging, killing at least five people, according to local authorities. About 200 buildings have been damaged.
Authorities say the fires will be extinguished by about 300 rescue workers and 90 vehicles.
– The weather makes firefighting difficult. A strong wind will ignite the flames and prevent them from being suppressed, authorities said.
In recent years, Siberia has suffered from large-scale wildfires. According to the European Annual Climate Report, last year fires emitted 16 million tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere.
