PSG increased its losses in the 20-21 season to €224.3M

A trident that does not scare

The paris st germain (PSG) had last season 224.3 million euros of lossesafter the 124.2 million that the previous one had received, which in France ended exceptionally in March 2020 with the outbreak of the covid crisis.

These figures appear in the report published this Thursday by the National Directorate of Control and Management (DNCG), a supervisory body of the Professional Football League (LFP), which highlights the economic downturn that almost all French clubs have gone through, and in particular the PSG.

The team from the capital represented 35% of the red numbers in the entire first division in the 2020-2021 season, which closed with negative 646 million euros.

A long way from PSG were Lyon with 107 million euros of losses, Marseille (76 million) and Bordeaux (67 million).

These losses are explained in an important part by the collapse of 95% of the income in the matches (basically from the tickets to the stadiums) to 7.9 million euros due to the restrictions due to the coronavirus.

At the opposite extreme, audiovisual rights recovered 21% to 835.7 millionalthough without reaching the levels of the 2018-2019 season.

On the expense side, staff remuneration grew by 9% to €1.24 billion and social contributions 23% to 347 million. Professional players absorbed 934.4 million of these amounts, 9% more, while 124.6 million went to coaches and technicians (+38%).

PSG alone spent 503 million euros on the remuneration of its staff (31.7% of all first division clubs), which meant an increase of 21% in one year.

The television rights brought him 201.8 million, of which 146 corresponded to his participation in the Champions League, in which he reached the semifinals. The French league matches brought him 50.2 million euros of television rights and the rest of the competitions 5.6 million.

The first French clubs sold 50 players abroad last season for which they obtained 302.7 million euros, while in the opposite direction they bought 61 footballers for 345.5 million.
