The amount of pollen in the air increases on windy days and especially before thunderstorms. Rinse your hair before going to bed
Coming home from outside, your hair has accumulated hundreds of small pollen particles.
Rinsing them before going to bed will eliminate them: this will prevent you from placing them on your pillow and breathing them in all night!
Open windows less
As soon as a pollen alert is issued, limit the opening of your windows ! In particular, if your bed is near a window, avoid leaving it open at night. Same fight for journeys by car: drive with the windows closed and forget the rides in convertibles! When the pollution peaks are superimposed on the pollen peaks, further reduce the time you open the windows: in fact, the fine particles promote the penetration of pollen grains into the small bronchi, further exaggerating allergic symptoms. In periods of pollution, ventilate your home in the morning and evening, when the air is freshest and least polluted.
Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes
As soon as the pollen is rife, wear your most beautiful sunglasses! In addition to the protection against UV rays they offer, they act as a screen against pollen grains in the air, which will travel less easily to your sensitive and irritable eyes!
No picnic!
In the event of a pollen peak, even if nature is calling you… Resist it! For example, avoid going for a picnic in the countryside or planning excursions across fields. Prefer less flowery and less wooded environments to relax, such as café terraces.
Indoor sports
During your outdoor sports sessions, you inhale even more pollen than usual due to the acceleration of your respiratory rate. To let off steam, practice an indoor sport during peak pollen periods!
Do not dry clothes outside
Nothing is nicer than clean, sun-dried clothes… except when pollen season is in full swing! As it dries, the pollen grains in the air will stick to them, bringing them dangerously close to your nose when you wear these clothes!
The solution: spread them inside your house instead.
Do not mow the lawn
Give up the pleasures of gardening in the event of a pollen spike: mowing the lawn is one of the behaviors to avoid, since this activity stirs up the pollen grains and puts them back in suspension in the air around you. When you delegate this task, don’t stick around either!
Consult an allergist
If you are prone to allergies, an allergist can help you by identifying the allergen and prescribing medications that will reduce symptoms (antihistamines) as well as an effective nasal decongestant to limit congestion.
But as with all medications, do not abuse them, and always respect the prescribed doses! Don’t take your allergy lightly! Left untreated, it can progress to more severe symptoms, even asthma.
Get desensitized
In the long term, you can get rid of your allergies by undertaking a desensitization cure. This will gradually accustom your body to rub shoulders with the allergen without overreacting. It can be done either by injections or by drops or sublingual tablets and lasts between three and five years.
