MATRIX RESURRECTIONS. Are you going to see Matrix 4? Don’t want to miss a thing? So you will have to stay until the end of the credits to see everything.

[Mis à jour le 22 décembre 2021 à 9h24] Superhero films have systematically accustomed us to it: post-credits scenes are a more and more widespread custom. This Wednesday, December 22, the film Matrix 4, or Matrix Resurrections, by Lana Wachowski is released and you must be warned: the credits of the film end with a post-credits scene. This is not the first time that the saga has included such a bonus after its credits. Indeed, Matrix Reloaded already had a similar scene at the time and simply unveiled the Matrix Revolutions trailer for the curious (and patients) who had waited at the end of the credits. We will not reveal anything to you of the post-credits scene of Matrix 4 but know that it exists and that it will be necessary to wait until the end of the credits to discover it.

After a long wait linked to the uncertainties generated by the health crisis, the long-awaited sequel to the Matrix saga finally arrives with Matrix 4 entitled Matrix Resurrections. Directed by Lana Wachowski, this fourth episode of the science fiction saga invites us to find Keanu reeves and Carry Anne Moss as Neo and Trinity. They seem to have forgotten their various adventures in The Matrix, Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions. They live an uninteresting daily life again, but their dreams and a stubborn sense of déjà vu will lead them to find each other. The first Matrix 4 trailer was unveiled last September.

A second trailer was then unveiled by Warner Bros. Pictures at the beginning of December. This trailer reveals many more sequences of the Matrix 4 and allows in particular to highlight the parallels between the fourth film and the other feature films of the saga. We thus understand that Jonathan Groff plays the equivalent of Agent Smith played by Hugo Weaving in the previous films while Yahya Abdul Mateen II takes over the role of wise Morpheus.

Currently, Matrix Resurrections aka Matrix 4 is scheduled for release in France on 22 December 2021. Several times postponed, Lana Wachowski’s feature film sets out to follow up on the Matrix trilogy which marked the beginning of the 2000s with its referenced aesthetic sense, its dystopian approach and its impressive action scenes.

Warner has released the synopsis for Matrix 4, in English. Here is its translation. In Matrix Resurrections, return to a world with two realities: that of everyday life, and what is hidden behind. To find out if his reality is a fabrication, to truly understand who he is, Mr. Anderson will have to choose to follow the White Rabbit again. And if Thomas, or rather Neo, has learned anything, it is that choice, although illusory, is the only way to enter (or exit) the Matrix. Of course, Neo already knows what to do. But he doesn’t yet know if the Matrix is stronger, safer, or more perilous than before. One thing is certain, he has a feeling of deja vu …

Lana Wachowski, after co-creating and directing the first trilogy, worked both on the production, direction, and writing of this new film. Casting side, Keanu Reeves takes again his role of Thomas Anderson / Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss that of Trinity. No information, however, on the participation of Laurence Fishburne and her character Morpheus, who completed the trio of protagonists of the first film. This one has apparently been taken up by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman, Us). Still on the casting side, we can also count on the presence of Jada Pinkett Smith, Neil Patrick Harris and Jonathan Groff. We also note that Lambert Wilson resumes his role of the Merovingian in this fourth episode.

  • Keanu Reeves: Neo / Thomas Anderson
  • Carrie-Anne Moss: Trinity
  • Yahya Abdul-Mateen II: Morpheus
  • Jonathan Groff: Smith
  • Jessica Henwick: Bugs
  • Neil Patrick Harris: The analyst
  • Jada Pinkett Smith: Niobe
  • Priyanka Chopra Jonas: Sati
  • Christina Ricci: Gwyn de Vere
  • Lambert Wilson: The Merovingian

With the approach of Matrix 4, headed by Lana Wachowski, a fifth project linked to Matrix would be in development. On his Twitter account, screenwriter Zak Penn confirmed in early October 2019 that two separate projects around the Matrix universe are in preparation at Warner Bros: Matrix 4, and another feature film located “earlier in the timeline” Matrix. It would not be “not a reboot” according to the screenwriter. If this feature film is indeed produced, it would therefore be the fifth film of the license but it would not therefore be Matrix 5 which, for the time being, has not been announced.
