A Norfolk County woman is facing animal cruelty charges after an investigation led to the removal of almost 40 animals from a property in the Waterford area on Sunday.
Norfolk OPP say 27 dogs, five cats, one pig and one guinea pig were removed from a home located on Norfolk County Road 19 East. Three horses and two donkeys were also removed from the property with the assistance of volunteers, OPP Acting Sgt Ed Sanchuk said in a media release.
OPP received a call from a motorist concerning animals in the ditch on Sunday morning. The motorist attempted to locate the animals’ owner before calling the police.
Police arriving at the property located several animals inside a residence. Ministry of the Solicitor General Public Safety Animal Welfare Services was called in to assist with the investigation and removal of the animals from the property.
A 63-year-old Norfolk County woman is charged with cruelty to animals – unnecessary pain, suffering or injury.
She is scheduled to appear in court in Simcoe at a later date.
“The investigation is continuing and further updates will be provided when new information becomes available,” said Sanchuk.
