Thousands of people, led by non-governmental organizations and trade unions, took to the streets to celebrate May 1 Labor and Solidarity Day in Paris, the Capital of France. Black Bloc members attacked the police with stones and bottles.
NUMBER OF INJURED AND DETENTION IS ANNOUNCED
Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said on his social media account that most of the celebrations were peaceful, but police detained 54 people in Paris, including a woman who attacked a firefighter trying to put out the blaze.
Darmanin also stated that 8 police officers were injured in the incidents.
HOW MANY PEOPLE ATTENDED?
While demonstrators protested the plan to raise the retirement age of President Emmanuel Macron, who was recently elected for a second term, around 250 rallies were also held outside of Paris in other cities such as Lille, Nantes, Toulouse and Marseille.
The Ministry of Interior announced that a total of 116,500 people participated in the demonstrations, of which 24 thousand were in the capital.
