Pelosi is the highest-ranking representative of the U.S. leadership who has visited Ukraine since the start of the war. The delegation took a message to Kiev that more support from the United States was coming.
Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States Congress Nancy Pelosi has visited the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, and met with the country’s president Volodymyr Zelensky. The matter first came to light in a video posted by Zelensky on Twitter.
– We are visiting you to thank you for your fight for freedom. We are committed to being your support until the battles are fought, Pelosi tells Zelensky in the video.
In his Twitter message, Zelenskyi thanked the United States for protecting Ukraine’s sovereignty.
– The United States is leading strong support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression, Zelenskyi said.
According to the Pelos office in the Democratic Party, the president’s delegation took a message to Kiev that more support from the United States was coming.
President of the United States Joe Biden last week presented a € 33 billion package for armaments and financial support to Ukraine.
– We will return to the United States better informed, deeply inspired and ready to do what is necessary to help the Ukrainian people as they defend democracy for their country and the world, Pelos said in a statement.
Pelos’ trip to Ukraine was not made public in advance.
Pelosi is the highest-ranking representative of the U.S. leadership who has visited Ukraine since the start of the war. In the United States, the Speaker of the House of Representatives comes third in the hierarchy after the President and Vice-President.
