Sarnia police laid a stunt driving charge Wednesday after a vehicle is alleged to have struck a curb while speeding away from an officer.

Police said an officer was using traffic radar in the area of ​​Vidal and St. Clair streets in Sarnia at about 9:50 am when a vehicle was spotted going 102 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

The officer turned on the cruiser’s lights and sirens but it’s alleged the vehicle accelerated away. The driver lost control, went through a stop sign and struck the curb causing the vehicle to be inoperable, police alleged.

Police said a 25-year-old Courtright resident has been charged with fleeing police, dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving while suspended and stunt driving.

The vehicle has been impounded for 14 days.
