After several years of decline, Expo sees a trend break in the racial ideological environment in Sweden.
“The racial ideological environment is growing and has become a diversified, difficult -to -understand, more violent environment that attracts a new generation of young boys with great help from social media,” says Daniel Poohl, CEO of the Expo Foundation, in a press release.
Historically high number of groups
Since 2008, Expo has released annual reports, which maps right -wing extremist groups in Sweden by reviewing the number of activities and how many groups are available. By activities, Expo says, for example, demonstrations, dissemination of propaganda or organized close combat training.
The number of activities has decreased for several years and in 2023 they were at a record low level. But in 2024, activity has increased And the extreme groups have become more. Expo estimates that there are 29 active racial ideological groups in Sweden – a historically high figure according to the report.
Attracts young people
The background is that new groups are emerging in the shadow of the Nazi Nordic resistance movement, which is still the most active group, writes Expo. The clearest trend is the so -called “active clubs” – right -wing groups with a focus on strength training, martial arts and violence.
“Increased community, hypermasculine ideals and violence are common themes used in propaganda to attract young people into the environment.” writes Expo.
– It’s an alarming development. We have not seen this influx of young people to the extreme right in many years, comments Expos Daniel Poohl.
