France | Rothen: “We don’t need Conte at PSG”

A trident that does not scare

The latest information coming from France suggests that Antonio Conte has offered himself to PSG. According to RMC Sport, the Italian coach has asked the Parisian team for a salary of €30 million per year, in addition to having full powers in terms of transfers. For Jerôme Rothen, an RMC Sport consultant, the signing of Conte is unnecessary and PSG does not need a coach of that profile.

“Of course we don’t need Conte at PSG. When you hear his claims, you have to let him stay where he is. I’m not sure he can get to a club like Paris Saint-Germain, which needs to rebuild its reputation and image. We need passionate people. I’m not saying Conte isn’t passionate about football, but he seems more passionate about his checkbook than coaching Tottenham, PSG or any other team. That would already be problematic”, recognized Rothen in his program of RMC Sport, “Rothen s’enflamme”.

Rothen added that PSG needs a coach and sports director profile with very precise ideas and who represents the values of the French institution: “What remains and what transcends in a club in the locker room is the speech that is had. What religion reigns in the locker room, that is, football, passion and the will to win together while respecting the values and colors of the club. This is what PSG needs today. […] We need a sports director with very precise ideas that go with the values and institution of Paris Saint-Germain. That is the most important”.

To end, the former PSG player acknowledged that Conte would only be a good addition if he doesn’t demand so much money: “I’m not sure Conte is the ideal coach, but I’m sure that if he comes for specific reasons I would say yes because he brings that claw he has. I have the impression that Conte identifies quite quickly with the club he coaches. But not in these financial conditions. That would no longer be PSG. The PSG of the past, the old and historical, is no longer recognized. If a coach is hired for these economic conditions, it is FC Conte and it will no longer be PSG.”. For Rothen, the ideal coach for the Parisians would be Julien Stephan, current Strasbourg coach.
