Energy transition inaugurated new cycle unit combined with 800 MW

(Finance) – Over 3.2 million hours of work for the construction and implementation in operation, in addition to 700 thousand hours for the design, manufacture and support activities, with a total investment of approximately 400 million euros: officially inaugurated today the new 800 MW -combined cycle unit at the CEntral EP Production of Tavazzano and Montanasor, made with the advanced technology of the class H gas turbine produced by Ansaldo Energia. The system, a symbol of innovation and sustainability, represents a strategic piece in the Italian path towards decarbonisation and energy efficiency, in line with the objectives of the integrated national plan for energy and climate (PNIEC).

The event He saw the participation of Luca Alippi, CEO of EP Production, and Fabrizio Fabbri, CEO of Ansaldo Energia, together with managers of the group leader EPH and institutional representatives.

The new unit, With an installed power of about 800 MW, it is fueled by a latest generation GT36 class HTS, more advanced and efficient technology available on the market, designed for the use of hydrogen in mixture with natural gas. Thanks to a yield greater than 62%, the plant guarantees maximum efficiency and a significant reduction in CO2 emissions, responding to the most stringent national and European standards.

The reduction of specific emissions of nitrogen oxides are also significant (NOX) by about 70%. Thanks to this new unit, capable of satisfying the energy needs of about one and a half million families, the overall power of the system reaches 1,970 MW. Operational flexibility and extremely quick start -up times, they represent a fundamental pillar for the safety of energy supply, effectively supporting the integration of non -programmable renewable sources and guaranteeing constant and reliable supply.

“This inauguration represents a strategic goal for EP production and for the territory because it ensures a future for the Tavazzano and Montanaso websitehistorically suited to the production of electricity since 1952 Luca Alippi, CEO of EP production.

“Today we celebrate the inauguration of one of the most modern electrical production systems in Europe, created thanks to the strong spirit of collaboration between EP Production, Ansaldo Energia and the over 140 companies in the supply chain involved in the project. The extreme operational flexibility of our GT36 turbine, combined with its efficiency, its low emissions and its predisposition to the use of hydrogen, make this system a cutting -edge tool to support the safety and energy transition of the country “, he added Fabrizio Fabbri, CEO of Ansaldo Energia.

EP Production – closes the note – continues to invest in the Italian market and during 2025 it will start the realization of 3
Electrochemical storage systems (batteries) for a total of 270 MW for 2h, in Sardinia, Emilia-Romagna and Sicily. Is also evaluating further investment opportunities, aiming to maintain and strengthen its role among the protagonists in the path of the national energy transition.
