The Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, Olympic champion in Paris last summer and target of accusations on her genre, said on Wednesday March 19 that she was aiming for the Los Angeles-2028 Games and that she would not be intimidated by Donald Trump. “I will give you a direct answer: the President of the United States has published a decree concerning the Policy on Transgender in America. I am not transgender, it does not concern me and it does not intimidate me. This is my answer, ”she told the British channel Itv News. In early February, Donald Trump took a decree aimed at preventing transgender athletes from practicing female sports and, after having accused Algerian boxer of being born a man and of having followed a gender transition, warned that “in Los Angeles, in 2028, (my) administration will not remain their arms crossed to watch female athletes”. Aged 25, Khelif won the gold medal last summer in the -66 kg category at the Paris Olympic Games, where accusations on his genre accompanied all his journey. The coronation of Khelif in the Ring of Paris-2024, as well as that of the Taiwanese Lin Yu-Ting (-57 kg), both accused of being transgender athletes, triggered a debate in which personalities like Donald Trump or Elon Musk have engulfed. The two boxers, constantly supported by the International Olympic Committee (CIO) and who have always contributed to women, had been prohibited from participating in the 2023 Worlds by the International Boxing Federation (IBA), itself dismissed by the IOC for reasons linked to finance, ethics and governance of this organization chaired by Russian Umar Kremlev.
