This week, many people choose to boycott food giants on the occasion of rampant prices.

Then ICA gives a message: We are not a food giant.

“To those who do not want to support a food giant, welcome to your local ICA store,” it says in their fresh advertising.

“What is a food giant?

So Ica’s response to the boycott of the food giants that thousands of people participate this week.

When the boycott week began, the food company rolled out an advertising campaign in the newspapers where they believed that they rather consist of over a thousand independent local stores.

“We understand that our customers, throughout the country, have been tough right now. Expensive electricity, high interest rates, war and bad harvests affect prices. But we want to continue to stand on the customers, no matter where in Sweden they are,” they write.

Large support

The initiative on a week’s boycott comes in reaction to the rising food prices in Sweden. In line with more expensive foods that households are struggling with, the large food chains have reported high profits.

Through social media, among other things, the protest action against the food giants has been spread. Those who participate should instead shop at smaller grocery stores or not buy any food at all.

The boycott has also spread to politicians. Among other things, Nooshi Dadgostar, party leader for the Left Party, will join.

“I will participate by boycotting ICA,” she wrote to Aftonbladet before the boycott week.
