The municipal housing company Kfast has a huge maintenance need in several areas in Eskilstuna, up to SEK 2 billion, says Puustinen. At the same time, the population in the municipality has decreased and over 1,500 apartments are empty.
In Brunnsbacken, Kfast has about 560 apartments – many of them are worn. Renovating them would cost the municipality approximately SEK 500 million. Puustinen believes it is unreasonable to spend that money.
– Sometimes you build things and sometimes you may have to look at removing things too, based on the development we have today in society, says Jari Puustinen (M).
But accommodation that SVT talked to in the area does not agree.
– I think it’s a very bad idea. There are many who cannot afford to live everywhere here in town and it is very cheap in these houses. I think many people probably wouldn’t feel so good about such a thing, says Christian Eklund, who lives in Brunnsbacken.
