Samsung has just officially announced the release date for the ONE UI 7 update. An important version that will bring functions of the Galaxy S25 to older smartphones and tablets.
After making the suspense last, Samsung finally has an release date for One Ui 7, the new version of its mobile operating system, or, more exactly its overlay for Android. We thus know that this update, based on Android 15, will be deployed from April 7, 2025. This new version of the interface, much awaited by users, promises many new features, in particular better personalization, optimized performance and, above all, IA functions, the big trend of the moment. As always, this update will first come on certain recent models before gradually spreading to other devices in the following weeks. The brand new Galaxy S25 are not affected since they already have this version of One UI (see our test).
One UI 7: A gradual and limited update
The first smartphones to receive One UI 7 will be the Galaxy S24, Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. In a second step, the update will be offered on the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Fe, Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5, as well as on tablets in the Galaxy Tab S10 and Galaxy Tab S1. Other devices, including Galaxy A, are also planned, although the details on their compatibility are still blurred at this stage.
One of the main news in this version is the Now Bar, a toolbar that appears at the bottom of the home screen and allows you to quickly access essential information without unlocking the phone. It recalls the Dynamic Island “of Apple, but is more easily accessible and better integrated into the Samsung ecosystem. The Now Bar is accompanied by new widgets and a redesigned lock screen, making daily use more fluid.
In addition, several tools based on artificial intelligence appear, such as AI Select, which suggests actions according to the content on the screen. There is also an editorial assistant who summarizes or formats texts automatically, as well as a drawing assistant to transform sketches into more elaborate illustrations. Finally, the “audio erase” tool removes unwanted noise from videos, such as wind or traffic, to offer improved sound quality. However, these features will only be available on the most recent and powerful models, such as the Galaxy S24 and Z Fold 6.
The 2023 models, such as the Galaxy S23 and Z Flip 5, will benefit from most of the news of One UI 7, but will have to do without certain advanced functions, such as the integration of Google Gemini for vocal research in natural language or audio eraser. It seems that Samsung has chosen to reserve certain options for more recent devices, which could create clear distinctions between the different generations of smartphones.
