A French politician wants France to take back the Statue of Liberty from the United States.
The play is said to be a mark against Donald Trump, and now the White House responds with clarity.
“It is the merit of the United States that the French are not speaking German now,” says White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.
Raphaêl Glucksmann believes that Americans no longer respect the value of the statue, which was a gift almost 140 years ago.
“To the Americans who have taken a stand for the tyrants, to the Americans who kick researchers because they demand scientific freedom, we say: Give us the Statue of Liberty,” Glucksmann told Jubel at a congress for the Place Publique party.
The play is a clear mark against President Donald Trump’s actions in foreign policy and the attitude to the Ukraine war. During his first weeks in the White House, Trump has stated that he wants to “take over” land areas such as Greenland, Gaza, Canada and the Panama Canal.
“They should show gratitude”
Glucksmann now proposes that France do the same with the 93 meter high statue, which was designed by Auguste Bartholdi in the 1880s.
-It will have a good time at home, the Frenchman claims and also welcomes researchers and others who have been dismissed because of the Trumpstyle’s new anti-many rules to France.
The White House has been clear in its reply and responds that the French should instead be grateful for the US efforts during the Second World War.
– My advice to the insignificant French politician would be to remind them that it is the US merit that the French are not speaking German now. They should show gratitude to our fantastic country, says White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.
