The authority controls all declarations mechanically and in addition to this special checks are made in areas where you see risks for errors, he explains.

“During 2025, we increase the control of private individuals compared to 2024 in areas where the risk of errors and cheating is high. This applies, for example, to travel deductions and unreported income, such as the rental of housing and sale of services through platform companies and cryptocurrency.

But what is important for the public to consider when declaring? According to Janowski, there are a couple of things that are important to bring.

  • Declare digitally by texting, calling or declaring in the e-service or app. If you declare digitally, there will be less risk of errors and you immediately get a receipt that the declaration has been received by us. In the e-service, more information is already completed and you get help with calculations.
  • It is important to check that the information in the declaration is correct before approving. If something is wrong, you should contact the person who submits the information to the Swedish Tax Agency.
  • Both notification of reimbursement and withholding tax will be sent out in April if you approve the declaration digitally without changes by April 2.
  • The declaration service opens on March 18 and the last day to declare is May 2.
