A French member of the European Parliament has tired of Washington’s “embrace” by dictators.
Raphaël Glucksmann now urges the United States to return the iconic statue that gave a gift just over 140 years ago.
“Give us back the Statue of Liberty,” he says at a party congress reports French media.
The Statue of Liberty was unveiled in New York in 1886 and was a gift from the French people to mark the centenary of US independence. Over the years, the statue has also come to symbolize freedom and democracy.
But these values are no longer standing for the United States, says the French member of the European Parliament Raphaël Glucksmann.
“Statue of Liberty will be good at home”
At a party congress, he sent a greeting to all Americans who have chosen to stand on the “tyrants side”.
– Give us back the Statue of Liberty, he says, developing:
– We gave it to you as a gift, but obviously you despise it. So it will be good here at home.
Raphaël Glucksmann has previously criticized Donald Trump’s changes in US policy in the war in Ukraine.
According to French local media, the play probably refers to Washington’s decision to pause the assistance to Ukraine. Although the aid is now rolling to Kiev again, Donald Trump’s softness against Russia and admiration for Putin and other leaders has caused concern in Europe.
The proposal: Immigrate to France
Glucksmann also pointed out France benefits that Americans get rid of their jobs during the Trump administration. He suggested that they immigrate.
– If you want to kick your best researchers, if you want to kick all people who, through their freedom and their sense of innovation and who have made your country the world’s leading power – then we will welcome them.
Since Trump returned to the White House in January, he has reduced federal research grants and tried to dismiss hundreds of federal health and climate research workers.
