On Monday, a boycott will start the food giants, in response to the high food prices.
The initiative has been noticed – and one that hooks is Maria Markarian, who will not shop at all during week 12.
– – – There are many who have been affected and it is time to say, she tells TV4 News.
The initiative on a national boycott of the big grocery stores took off at the end of February. The call applies to week 12 and the stores to be avoided are according to the initiator ICA, Coop, Hemköp, Willys, City Gross and Lidl. A Facebook group on the boycott currently has over 3000 members.
The boycotter Maria Markarian has traded things that will be needed on Sunday. Now a week without any food is waiting at all.
– It feels good. It was time I think. There are many who have been affected and it is time to say. The Swedish people have been very kind and you do not boycott very often. And since no one reacts, higher powers, we should say, then it is we who will do it.
So much increases prices
In February, the food had been an average of 3.9 percent more expensive compared to the same period last year, according to Statistics Sweden. According to the site Matpriskollen, chocolate has gone up 24 percent, coffee 18 percent – and hard cheese, food fat, berry mix, milk and cream 14 percent.
The food industry responds because the price increases are due to a changed world situation and that costs have been increased at the production stage. At the same time, Axfood, where Willys, Hemköp and Citygross have been included, have increased the dividend to the shareholders and ICA reported a profit of SEK 971 million for the fourth quarter last year.
“Kindly way”
Maria Markarian thinks that the boycott is a good method for getting through changes and putting his foot down against the food giants.
– It’s a nice way, I think. You don’t hurt anyone, but you show what you think and what you are looking for.
Several in the acquaintance as relatives and colleagues are included in the initiative.
– Hope everyone who said they should boycott does.
