The Algerian president sent a message of congratulations to Emmanuel Macron on Monday April 25 for his re-election on Sunday, with 58.5% of the vote against Marine Le Pen. Abdelmadjid Tebboune evokes the ” brilliant re-election of his French counterpart and invites him to visit Algeria soon to strengthen the relationship between the two countries. An invitation when a serious diplomatic crisis broke out between France and Algeria at the end of last year.
In the message published by the Algerian presidency, Abdelmadjid Tebboune sends his best wishes for success to Emmanuel Macron. He says to himself “tvery satisfied of the quality of their personal relationship and the progress made, albeit relative, by the Algerian-French partnership.
He also invites his counterpart to visit Algeria soon, to intensify relations between the two countries. Emmanuel Macron only went there once, as president. Officials, on the other hand, made the trip, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, less than two weeks ago.
The time therefore seems to be warming, while Franco-Algerian relations have sometimes been stormy during Emmanuel Macron’s first five-year term.
On the one hand there was a series of memorial gestures of the French president, on the other, tensions and even a serious diplomatic crisis last year. Crisis caused by the Paris decision to reduce the number of visas granted to Algerians, Moroccans and Tunisians, but also by the words of Emmanuel Macron affirming that Algeria was built on a memory rent maintained by a politico-military system.
Algiers then recalled its ambassadorwho returned to Paris at the start of the year.
