Finance Minister calls the food giants to call

Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson and Rural Minister Peter Kullgren will call Sweden’s leading food chains for talks about the rising food prices, the government writes in a press release.

“Due to the rapid price trend during the first months of the year and the rising prices of recent years, the Minister of Finance and the Rural Minister will call themselves selected players from the food chain for calls,” they write.

The purpose of the conversations is to hear the industry’s assessment of the situation and to work together for lower food prices.

When Elisabeth Svantesson last called for a meeting on food prices was 2023. Then only the food giants were included. In this meeting, various interest organizations will also participate.

Day -fresh figures from Statistics Sweden show that food prices rose by 3.9 percent in February compared to the same month last year – the largest rise in more than a year.
