Sarnia police officers caught three impaired drivers over the weekend in various places throughout the city, Sarnia police say.
The first incident took place around 4:30 am Saturday in Canatara Park, where a vehicle drove on the grass and nearly hit wooden posts lining the low-speed road. After an officer pulled the vehicle over, the driver failed a roadside breath test and was taken to headquarters for more testing.
Nicholas Michael Ashley, 21, from Sarnia is facing two charges.
The second incident occurred shortly after midnight Sunday. A vehicle changed lanes at a red light at Exmouth Street and London Line, then stopped in the intersection.
As an officer pulled the car over near Barclay Drive, it mounted the curb and grass. The driver failed a roadside test and further tests showed they were more than twice the legal limit, police said.
Keith Johnathan Foster, 26, from Sarnia is facing two charges.
Less than three hours later, an officer was called to Indian Road North and Michigan Avenue about a vehicle straddling two lanes while the driver was passed out behind the wheel.
“The vehicle was in drive, headlights on, and loud music was emanating from within the vehicle. Officers were banging on the window in an attempt to wake the driver up,” police said in a statement.
The driver woke up and unlocked the rear passenger door, allowing officers access to the vehicle. They were arrested and tests later showed they were more than twice the limit, police said.
Dwight Leslie Dudgeon, 47, from North Bay is facing two charges.
All three suspects had their driver’s licenses suspended for 90 days, cars impounded for one week, and were given upcoming short dates.
