As a Trion Worlds published Defiance in April 2013, the developers almost had a revolutionary plan: the MMO should be in a constant interaction with the TV series of the same name. In practical terms, however, it never worked. Now there should be a comeback of the Scifi game.
What was Trion’s exact plan? Even before the MMO’s defiance was released, the first season of the Defiance series appeared on the Pay TV station Syfy. The events shown there should first affect the MMO’s game world.
In the second step, it was the plan that the progress and actions of the community would affect the events of the second season of the series. Such an interaction between the media game and series had not yet existed. If that worked well … the MMO’s genre might be different today.
If Defiance had been a success, maybe Bioware would have started a TV series for Anthem …

What was the problem? There were several:
After the third season, the series has already been collected again. In July 2018, the MMO received an adapted version called Defiance 2050 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. In the meantime, the rights to the game of Gamigo were adopted. On April 29, 2021, the servers of both versions went offline forever.
Life -believed life longer
Really forever? Well, we had assumed that. However, the Studio Fawkes Games has now announced on the official website Fawkesgames.com to want to bring Defiance back to life. The announcement states:
We are pleased to be able to announce that we have acquired the publication rights for Defiance 2013 and Defiance 2050 on all platforms. Our first step is a relaunch of the original version of 2013 on the PC, which is scheduled to appear in April 2025. This is your chance to immerse yourself again in a world in which every battle, every ark fall and every moment shared with other players is proof of the constant legacy of the game.
If enough players are interested in the comeback from Defiance, then there should also be a comeback of the MMO on the consoles. A re -revitalization of the transmedia synergies does not seem to be planned. The Defiance series probably remains with three seasons.
Who is Fawkes Games? The team describes itself as an indie game studio and publisher and seems to have set itself the task of bringing failed games back. In the past two years, Gamigo alone has secured the rights to Shaiya, Last Chaos, Desert Operations and Wargame in 1942.
You can hardly believe it, but there are some parallels between defiance and Anthem: Both are MMO shooters, both failed and there are people who would like to implement a comeback-a former boss of the SF-MOS Anthem says: “I would like to put it on again”
