F21 in Luleå ready for NATO’s mission – will deter war

Air policing is NATO’s airspace monitoring and incident preparedness that has been working since the early 1960s. The incident preparedness helps to strengthen the territorial integrity of the Allied airspace and to be deterrent with attacks in the airspace.

As a result of Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014, NATO introduced a strengthened airspace monitoring, Enhanced Air Police, which Sweden is included in.

The incident preparedness and airspace monitoring shall face deviating aviation activity in the operating area. It can be about identifying, meeting and escorting flights that do not respond to calls or moving against the alliance’s territory.
