Surprisingly, sprint star Jonna Sundling started in the five -mile in the World Cup.
After 2 hours and 29 minutes, she went into goal as fifth.
“It was the sickest thing I’ve done in my career,” she tells the site langrenn.com.
It became great sludge for Jonna Sundling30, in the ski World Cup in Trondheim. Gold in the sprint, gold in the team sprint together with Maja Dahlqvist30, bronze in skiathlon, gold in the relay together with Emma Ribom27, Frida Karlsson25, and Ebba Andersson27. Then everything ended with a fifth place in 50 km in freestyle.
Jonna Sundling about the World Cup chaos
Few thought that sprint specialist Jonna Sundling could perform at such a long distance and she had no chance to hang with the leadership quartet with Ebba, Frida, Heidi Weng33, and Therese Johaug36 – but she was the fastest of everyone else. After the finish she was completely exhausted and empty of words.
– I find it difficult to describe in words, because it was the sickest thing I have done in my career, purely in terms of competition, she tells the Norwegian site Langrenn.com.

It would turn out to be a crazy race for several reasons. Weather was pure chaos. The snow and rain fell every second. At the same time, the organizers could not salute the tracks because it did not respond to the snow.
– We knew it would be quite tough conditions, given that this morning they said it would not be salting, because it did not respond well in the snow. Then it was realized that it will be solved, she says.
Jonna Sundling is pleased with her placement
She continues to talk about how the weather played a big role during the World Cup five mile. That was what made it take an extra long time to conduct the competition.
– That it would be so solved around the whole course, it shocked us when we came here this morning. I began to think that you might not warm up so much on skis, but maybe you should warm up your knees and all the joints, because you stood like … no, it was not stable so to speak.

After three World Cup golds and one World Cup bronze, she is satisfied with a fifth place in the five-mile. She had not expected that in advance.
– I am happy with how the race ended and that I could slip into a fifth place. It feels almost sick enough as a medal to me. Especially with this weather and how long the distance is, she says.
Big congratulations to an incredibly nice World Cup, Jonna Sundling! You are really awesome! Sweden’s hero in the baton, who arranged the gold almost entirely on its own.
