The more fat, the more good! And between oil, cheese, cream, meat and other generous ingredients, some traditional dishes are raising calories records. Something to shake the scales!
Food is much more than a necessity: it is a pleasure, a discovery and, sometimes, a real challenge for our scale. In the world, some culinary specialties are renowned for their generosity in taste, but also in calories. From comforting dishes to the most greedy traditional recipes, they are often synonymous with conviviality … and excess. Whether in the form of crisp fried fries, melting cheeses or simmered meats in fatty sauces, some reach calorie heights that make dieticians shudder.
Renowned worldwide for the diversity and finesse of its gastronomy, French cuisine does not have to be ashamed of calories! It’s very simple, it is as rich in flavor as it is fat! Some traditional dishes are particularly caloric due to the more than generous use of cream, butter, cheese or meat.
The good French winter dishes such as the raclette, the tartiflette and the Savoyard fondue, which drips with cheese and cold meats, are the perfect example. To realize it, 100 grams of Savoyard Fondue represent approximately 234 calories, and 100 grams of tartiflette approximately 144 calories. Between cheese, cold meats, potatoes and all accompaniments next to it, it rises very quickly!
In the same genre, you can count on the aligot, a dish straight from Aveyron made up of half potatoes, and half of cheese – often cantal or tomme. And that’s it. There are about 181 calories per 100 grams. Perfect for preparing to hibernate!
Among the most calorie dishes in the world, there is also the pancake with spread – even more if it is Nutella. To give you an idea, two spoons alone are worth 200 calories. And we all know that we only very rarely stop at a single pancake … We can also cite the duck confit, the Burgundian beef, the cassoulet, the Lorraine quiche or the Kouign-Amann. But the unbeatable champion remains the foie gras, which bears his name very well! Fortunately, it is generally consumed in small quantities.
If French cuisine is a proud representative of fat, there are also some nuggets elsewhere around the globe. This is the case for Spanish Churros. Sugar, fat, spreading dough as an accompaniment … What more could you ask for? A single churro alone represents about 120 kcal. And they are generally sold in batch of six or twelve …
Acarajé, a specialty of Brazil, also defends itself not bad! It is a filled donut made with a bean, onion and salt dough, all with oil cooking. No wonder we have about 280 kcal, for only one of these donuts! We can also quote the poutine of our Canadian friends, with its fries, its cheese and a lot of sauce – but really a lot – but also the Italian Calzone – which brings together all that is better on a pizza – and the Georgian Khachapuri – a bread container filled with melted cheese and surmounted by an egg in the dish – to complete the prize list. So, wouldn’t you have a little hollow by chance?
