Recently, there has been a lot of talk about avoiding black plastic kitchen utensils. The reason is that they may contain a carcinogenic flame retardant, according to a new study from the organization Toxic-Free Future and Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. Recently, chemical adviser Erik Gravenfors also went out and warned of black plastic kitchen utensils.
So – what to use instead? An alternative to plastic tools is the kitchen utensils made of wood. In a clip that has become viral in social media over the past week, the American influencer Teresa states that bacteria can be collected in the wood on wooden spins – that you can get sick of. Therefore, Teresa believes that you should cook your wooden tools so that it becomes clean, and then oil them. But the question is whether it really is true?
City expert: “Throw and buy new”
In after five, the town expert Marléne Eriksson is allowed to answer that question. According to her, the wooden gear should not be boiled because they get cracks easier then, which rather increases the risk of bacteria.
– When you get cracks, it gets even worse. How should you get the clean then? I don’t understand what you are doing, says Marléne.
The town expert also saw the American influencer’s tips on oiling its wooden spins and wooden knives.
“Are they so that it is wood cutlery and that they crack, throw them and buy new ones,” she says.
Common mistakes when you wash wooden gear
To clean their gear of wood, according to Marléne Eriksson, they should be wash and dry as usual: by hand with water, detergent and dish brush.
– So they are just as good until next time. Why make it so complicated, she says.
The plaintment expert, on the other hand, raises a warning finger against a common mistake that many people do with their wooden tools. You should not put your wooden spins and wood cutlery in the dishwasher.
– The wood swells when it gets hot, and it bursts, she says.
“Don’t trouble it”
When asked if Marlene Eriksson herself uses wood or plastic tools, and what type she prefers, she replies that it depends on what she prepares for food. According to the town expert, it is the cleaning itself that is A and o. Marlene keeps a close look for cracks in her ladies and cutlery. If she finds a broken gear, it goes in the trash.
– Just look at a butter knife that you might wash in infinity in a dishwasher, what does it look like? It gets dry and bursts, she says.
In summary, you should try to keep it easy when cleaning your kitchen utensils, says Marlene Eriksson.
“You don’t have to keep up with it, live a light life,” she says.
