Orange makes the “real” 5G accessible to individuals. Current subscribers can activate it via a free option, while new customers can subscribe to a dedicated package. And Sosh takes the opportunity to offer two new 5G packages.
The arrival of 5G marked a revolution in the telecommunications world, promising connection speeds much higher than those of 4G. But within 5G, there are several variants. In France, 5G can take place on three frequency bands: 700 MHz (the largest range, less flow), 2.1 GHz and 3.5 GHz (the most important flows, but with a small radius). In order to quickly cover the territory, 5G rested, at its launch in 2020, on the pre -existing 4G architecture, even if it means proposing less flows. But there is a 5G+, also called 5G SA (Standalone) or “True 5G”, which is based this time on a 5G architecture and only uses the 3.5 GHz frequency band to offer performance superior to standard 5G. This ensures a more reactive network, with lower latency, of constant quality and with a reinforced level of security thanks to the encryption of the identification data of the SIM card.
While, so far, only Free Mobile and SFR offered 5G+ to their private customers, it is the turn of Orange to enter the battle! If the historic operator already offered a 5G+offer, it was dedicated to professionals (SMEs and businesses). In A press release published this Thursday, March 6, 2025he announces put his new generation network at the service of the general public. It is a real rocking that is taking place in the mobile telephony sector!
Orange 5G+: a free option for current subscribers
Thus, Orange launches this March 6 two new offers this March 6: a free 5G+ option without commitment to its current customers, and a premium package “special series 180 GB 5G+”, there too without commitment, for new subscribers. The 5G+ option is offered free of charge and without commitment to all Orange 5G customers who hold a compatible smartphone. For the moment, only eleven terminals are, but the operator provides for around sixty by the end of the semester, and a hundred by the end of the year:
- Samsung Galaxy S25
- Samsung Galaxy S25+
- Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra
- Samsung Galaxy S24
- Samsung Galaxy S24+
- Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
- Xiaomi 14
- Xiaomi 14T
- Xiaomi 14t Pro
- Xiaomi 13T Pro
- Honor Magic 7 Pro
In practice, the transition to 5G+ is not automatic. To take advantage of it, and provided that the associated technical conditions are fulfilled, each user must activate it manually in their subscriber space, from the Orange mobile site or app. The operation is simple since it is enough to switch a switch.
Orange 5G +: A new package for new customers
As for the 180 GB+special series package, without commitment, it gives access to unlimited calls and SMS, 180 GB of Metropolitan France mobile data and 100 GB for the Europe, DOM, Switzerland and Andorra areas. He therefore benefits from 5G+, with his dedicated bandwidth. Small originality intended to seduce users: the package includes six months of standard Netflix subscription with advertising (after which it switches to 5.99 euros per month) and gives free access for a year to Chatgpt Plus, the paid offer of the conversational robot of Openai (after which it will be necessary to pay 23 euros per month). Obviously, it is possible to terminate at any time.
This subscription is offered at 41 euros per month for new subscribers. However, it benefits from an additional “cheat code” discount for 18-26 year olds which increases it to only 25 euros per month. It is even reduced to 20 euros per month for Orange Internet customers. To facilitate the adoption of technology, the operator offers a refund of up to 150 euros for the purchase of a Samsung Galaxy S25, for customers not yet having a 5G+compatible smartphone.
Sosh, the low cost subsidiary, is not to be outdone. If it is not entitled to this premium technology, it finally makes its offer evolve on its 5G mobile packages. For almost two years, the operator only offered a unique package of 140 GB (25 GB in EU/DOM) at 20.99 euros per month allowing to take advantage of this technology. SOSH now offers two: a 5G package of 150 GB (25 GB in UE/DOM) at 14.99 euros per month, and a 5G package from 200 GB (35 GB in UE/DOM) at 20.99 euros per month. Note that, if you choose one of these packages with a new mobile, you can take advantage of an ODR of 80 euros on it. Still, it was time for the operator to align with the competition, since 5G is often offered there without additional cost!
