More people get stone shot on the car – increased by 160 percent

The number of stone shoots on windshields has increased by 160 percent over the past 20 years, reports Echo.
At the same time, today’s windshields are thinner and full of technology, which makes the damage extra costly.
“There is a lot of money at gaming for ordinary motorists,” says Jacob Sidenvall, press secretary for the national organization M.

Significantly more motorists suffer from stone shoots today than 20 years ago – the number has increased by 160 percent, says the national organization M. According to Jacob Sidenvall, this is partly about the fact that motorism has changed and that more people choose double -free winter tires.

– The pattern picks up gravel more than dubbed tires. We also have to sand more when more have double -free tires, which leads to more gravel on the roads, he tells TV4 News.

According to Jacob Sidenvall, around half a billion SEK is spent each year dealing with glass damage caused by stone shoots. The new thinner windshields also have more built -in technology, which makes damage management increasingly expensive.

– There is a lot of money at stake for ordinary motorists.

More edged stones today

Jacob Sidenvall also points out that fewer and fewer cars have rubber benches that prevent dirt, gravel and water from sprinkling on the car. Spring aggravates the problem when sand and gravel crusher remain on the roadside and can easily be thrown up against the windshields.

– Often the gravel consists of rock crusher, which is angular stones that more easily punch holes on squares. The choice of material makes it easier to get gravel on the roads, he says.

The number of glass damage notified within motor vehicle insurance was 713,000 in the past year, reports Swedish insurance.

The risk is greatest now

The risk of stone shot is greatest in the stage between winter and spring because the gravel has not yet been swept away.

– When it starts to dust in the air, you know that the risk is at its highest right now, he says.

For those who want to avoid expensive injuries, small measures can make a difference. Jacob Sidenvall recommends motorists to directly cover any stone shot with stone shot patches.

– As soon as you hear that hard button in the box, you should try to hurry and clean and put on the note on top so as not to get moisture, then you guarantee a gold star at the workshop, he says.
