Macron: “Why would Russia settle for Ukraine?”
1:10
The summit with EU leaders is the latest of a number of extra -set meetings held in Europe in recent weeks. The background is the serious security situation and the development of recent weeks between the US and Ukraine.
The feeling is serious but determined, Ulf Kristersson tells P1 Morning about today’s meeting.
– You must not be paralyzed but think about: what do we do, he says from a car on his way to Arlanda to the radio program.
On the agenda is EU chairman Ursula von der Leyen’s proposal as a massive renovation of the defense of EU countries. She has presented an investment of approximately SEK 8,000 billion and developed a five -point plan for how the EU should renovate quickly.
You will also take up continued support for Ukraine, something that Hungary’s Victor Orbán is expected to block.
Unlike most European leaders, Orbán has taken a clear position for Trump following his public deportation by President Zelenskyj in the Ovala room.
“Strong men create peace, weak men create war,” he wrote on X about the incident. He has also wanted to see direct conversations with Putin and opposed support for Ukraine.
– The plan is that as many people as possible discuss with him, Ulf Kristersson tells P1 Morning.

Prior to the meeting, France’s Emanuel Macrón has met Orbán to talk, in classic French way. They met immediately after the president gave a serious speech to the nation.
– I know Macrón has eaten dinner with Orbán last night, says Ulf Kristersson.
Concerns have grown in Europe in recent weeks following a series of plays from Trump’s administration on the end of the war in Ukraine and what role the US will play after a possible peace.
Both Britain and France have opened to use their nuclear weapons in defense for other countries.
The summit starts at 12:30. Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyj will participate via link.
