Fire in industry – VMA issued

The rescue service has issued a VMA, important message to the public, after a strong fire broke out in Lönsboda, in Osby municipality. A firefighter was mildly injured in connection with the extinguishing.

All residents in the area are encouraged to go indoors and close doors, windows and ventilation.

Fire smoke itself is dangerous, but there are also chemicals in this industry. So we are unsure what is in the smoke cloud, says Tony Johansson, guard officer at the rescue service.

The alarm about the fire came in just before 01.30, the night of Thursday.

It is a fully developed, heavy fire. Our goal with the effort is to prevent the spread to an office part and let what burns down.

The fire is not under control and the work is expected to last for many hours.

It’s a pretty big industry here. I dare not answer the scope, but in pictures I have seen it looks like the majority is in flames, says Tony Johansson.

About 20 units work on site. In connection with the rescue work, a firefighter gained acid thinking.

The information I have been given is that he is cleaned up and controlled on site and that he is doing well, says Tony Johansson, adding that it is unclear whether the firefighter was taken to hospital for further control or not.
