It wasn’t long before the home team took the lead. Federico Valverde stood for a phenomenal pass to Rodrygo which took a step inward and placed the ball in the far cross to 1-0.
But Real Madrid’s delight became short -lived. Julián Álvarez got the ball outside the penalty area, entered the pitch and from a distance he dotted the far post, behind a chanceless Thibaut Courtois.
In the second half, the match calmed down a bit and most ball had Real Madrid, and that eventually gave results.
Brahim Diaz, who got the chance from the start, ended a fine team collaboration and 2-1 was a fact. A result that also stood out.
The return match will be played next week.
