Road traffic emissions of greenhouse gases increased by 18 percent last year in comparison with 2023, according to new statistics from the Swedish Transport Administration.
The central cause is the changed reduction obligation, which led to the amount of biofuels involved being halved last year.
Sweden’s national goal is to reduce emissions from transport by at least 70 percent by 2030 compared to emissions in 2010. This is a goal out of sight, says the Swedish Transport Administration’s environmental director Sven Hunhammar.
“We believe that the national stage goal will not be reached. The increase last year means that emissions are now tentatively 24 percent lower than the 2010 comparison year, ”he said in a press release from the Swedish Transport Administration.
The reduction obligation indicates how much biofuels should be mixed in gasoline and diesel.
