Vaccination is of great importance for the protection of society from diseases. Thanks to the vaccine, many dangerous and contagious diseases can be prevented. However, lack of vaccinations causes these diseases to be transmitted and 1.5 million people die each year. Stating that 2-3 million infant deaths are prevented each year with vaccination, Dr. Instructor Member Bahar Nur Kanbur stated that every child has the right to vaccination service and every parent should be aware of this responsibility.
VACCINATION STILL HAS NOT REACHED THE DESIRED LEVEL
Although childhood vaccination programs have been very successful all over the world and vaccine-preventable diseases have been greatly reduced, vaccination rates are still not at the desired level. According to the data released by the World Health Organization (WHO), 1.5 million people die today due to preventable diseases. Vaccination is an effective and successful method that saves millions of lives every year. It has been revealed that the highest number of measles cases of the last 20 years in the USA were seen in 2014, and most of these cases refused individual vaccination.
CHILDREN MUST BE FOLLOWED
Stating that the chemicals contained in vaccines are toxic and that natural immunization is more effective in preventing disease, claims have been made, Dr. from Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing. Instructor Member Bahar Nur Kanbur said, “Many studies have been conducted on the mercury contained in vaccines cause autism, but no study has proven these claims. The vaccine calendar being implemented in our country is established in line with the recommendations of the Immunization Scientific Advisory Board and by following scientific developments. But despite all this, some parents doubt its usefulness and reliability.” He stated that it is important to follow up the vaccinations of children and to provide trainings in order to increase the knowledge level of the families in order to maintain the success in vaccination.
DISEASES THAT ENDED DUE TO NON-VACCINATION BEGIN AGAIN
As a result of the arrival of large numbers of refugees to Turkey due to the Syrian war that started in 2011, diseases (polio, measles) that had been permanently ended in the past years began to appear again. Stating that the vaccination status of Syrian children is low and the number of those who complete their vaccinations decreases as the age increases, Dr. Instructor Member Bahar Nur Kanbur added that the biggest reason why Syrian parents do not get vaccinated is the language problem and that they do not have enough information about vaccines.
