Stina Nilsson went her first Vasalopp last Sunday – and won right away!
Now the 31-year-old is commenting on the ongoing World Cup in Trondheim and whether she could run the five-mile for Sweden.
She has won Olympic gold in Pyeongchang and World Cup gold in Seefeld as a traditional cross-country skier. In addition, she has been on the podium in the World Cup and taken a bronze at the European Championship as a biathlon. Stina Nilsson31, is really a versatile athlete. Before the season she changed course and invested in long -distance races instead and now she has won the Vasaloppet for the first time.
Stina Nilsson won Vasaloppet by far
When Stina, who now goes all into Ski Classics, debuted in the Vasaloppet on Sunday, she did so with the goal to take home “the biggest thing to win”. As a dalkul or dalkarl it is of course so, just ask Alvar Myhlback (who won the gentlemen’s Vasalopp).

Already after eleven kilometers Stina was ten seconds before Anikken made Alnes and 28 seconds before Silje Öyre Slind. In the end, she won by over five minutes. An incredible achievement! Nor did the national team lead in cross -country skiing go unnoticed. They saw what Stina was able to do in Vasaloppet.
Stina’s own words about being in the World Cup
Just a few hours after Stina Nilsson finished in goal, her old teammate won Ebba Andersson27, World Cup gold in Skiathlon in Trondheim. Towards the weekend, the ladies run their first five-mile ever in the World Cup context. Then it would have been extremely interesting to see Stina in place. But it turns out to be impossible to get Stina into the Swedish national team squad.
– There is no way to bring in Stina to the World Cup. We have reported the squad we have plus reserves. We have reported 12 names, and no additional riders can be taken in. Not even in theory, says the women’s trainer Stefan Thomson to Expressen.
The evening newspaper at the same time asks if they had been eager to pick up Stina Nilsson if it had been possible.
– It’s hard to say. With all the respect for Stina who makes it great today, we have not seen her go for a traditional competition this winter, says Thomson.

Nor does Stina Nilsson seem to be particularly craving herself to make a comeback in the Swedish cross country team. She doesn’t think she has anything to do in the World Cup.
– It’s skated and so far from this you can get. But I wish all the girls good luck, she says.
Congratulations to the victory in Vasaloppet, Stina! As I said, it would have been exciting to see you in the World Cup, but we understand that it will not get rid of. Good luck in the future in Ski Classics instead.
