It is a compound that is naturally found in citrus fruits (especially in lemon, hence its name), and which is often used in sodas, in the lifting powder and in the making of sweet products. Powerful descaling, multi-purpose cleaner and disinfectant agent, citric acid is ideal for maintaining the house gently. Unlike its acetic acid cousin (the constituent of white vinegar), it has the advantage of being more concentrated and therefore more effective to overcome limestone.
Ecological and economical, citric acid is increasingly prized by environment concerned for the environment. Available in the form of powder in DIY or online stores, it is an alternative of choice to white vinegar and industrial products.
By eliminating limestone, citric acid is particularly suitable for the maintenance of surfaces exposed to hard water, such as taps, sinks, shower walls, and even household appliances such as kettles, coffee machines and washing machines. In addition to its great efficiency, it does not leave an unpleasant odor after use, unlike white vinegar which can sometimes be difficult to bear.

It can also be used to remove soap or grease residues on kitchen and bathroom surfaces. And citric acid is also an excellent deodorant, which makes it a precious ally to fight against bad smells, especially in pipes.
However, some precautions must be taken because the product is irritating and powerful. It is not suitable for acid -sensitive materials, such as aluminum, marble or enamel. In addition, it should never be put in contact with soda or with chlorine or bleach cleaners under penalty of causing a dangerous chemical reaction! Finally, if it is not toxic, citric acid is irritating to the skin, eyes and mucous membranes: it is therefore important to protect your eyes and hands during manipulation with glasses and gloves.
