You can no longer call with your smartphone because you have forgotten or lost the PIN code of your SIM card? Don’t panic! A rescue code allows you to unlock it: you just have to know where to find it.
You probably unlock your smartphone many times a day using your fingerprint, facial recognition, a diagram or a PIN code that you know by heart by typing it. This small safety formality allows you to access all the content of the mobile. Nevertheless, and in a more occasional way, you may also have to enter a second PIN code, the one linked to your telephone line. The situation is presented for example when you restart the device or after turning it off and then rulled it. And this four -digit code has nothing to do with the one you have defined to secure access to phone content: it is associated with the SIM or ESIM card provided by your telephone operator and allows you to connect to its network to call.
At the first use of the SIM card, use the generic PIN code provided by the operator (often 0000, 1111 or 1234) and modify it immediately to define a more personal combination. It is possible to deactivate the entry of this code to ignore the phone, but it is not recommended. Because if the smartphone is lost or stolen, anyone can use it to call, consume all of your data package or even call overtixed numbers plummed your bill. And as this code is rarely used, it is easy to be mistaken by typing it on the screen or simply forgetting it. However, after three unsuccessful tests, the smartphone is blocking. Impossible to use it to call! This is where a special emergency code was involved: the PUK code.
The PUK code for Personal Unblocking/Unlocking Key (Uncomfortable identification number unlocking key), is none other than your only life buoy if your memory is lacking when entering the PIN code on your smartphone. It generally consists of eight figures (sometimes less) and has been provided to you by your operator at the same time as your SIM or ESIM card. Exclusively linked to your SIM card, it is not modifiable.
To find it, two solutions. The first is to get your hands on your telephone subscription contract. The PUK code is normally on this document but also on the plastic support in which the SIM card was inserted. It is therefore strongly advised to keep these documents in a safe place and which you will remember.
If you cannot put your hands on these documents, do not panic. You still have a way to know your PUK code. To do this, you can connect to your customer area on the operator’s website (Orange or Sosh, Free, Bouygues, SFR or RED) from another mobile or a computer connected to the Internet. You will need the identifier and password associated with your account. The help or assistance section should allow you to recover your PUK code. You can also attach the customer service of your operator or try your luck in one of its points of sale (with an identity document).
When you finally have your PUK code, it only remains to enter it in the suitable field displayed on the smartphone after three seizures of erroneous PIN code. You will then have to define a new PIN code (don’t forget!). Please note, you have 10 attempts for the PUK code. After these tests, if the code is not valid, the line will be definitively blocked.
