Since Ukraine was invaded by Russia, a banner has hung outside the US Embassy in Stockholm.

“We are behind Ukraine” it said in yellow text over the blue banner.

But now it has been picked down.

It is unclear when it happened, but already at the beginning of the week, passing notes that it was gone.

The former EU summit Gunnar Hökmark noticed it on Saturday morning.

– It is probably an active act and I think it is shameful, he says.

– The United States has previously concluded behind a country, a democracy, which is attacked by a dictator. The most obvious thing is that you should be at that country, he continues.

When he made the discovery, he took a photo from the embassy and shared it on X, where many of his followers reacted in a similar way.

– I don’t think anyone works at the embassy who picked it down, they have probably received directives about it. It is well in line with the opinions that Trump and Vance express when they want to approach Putin, says Gunnar Hökmark.

He says he thinks it’s sad that the United States falters when it comes to support for Ukraine.

– The United States has long been a nation that many have seen as the leaders of the free world. This is an expression that they want to abdicate from it.

It is unclear when exactly, and why, the banner was picked down.
