The developers of the role-playing game The Witcher 4 caused excitement with a “Behind the Scenes” video. Above all, Ciri’s changed model got a lot of praise – but the creators don’t know anything about that.
What’s going on there? When the players were able to take a look at the upcoming role -playing game The Witcher 4 in December 2024, the excitement was huge. The reveal trailer has been seen almost 10 million times on YouTube.
In the fourth part of the series, the protagonist is no longer scared, but his drawing daughter Ciri, who now looks adult and is drawn by life. Apart from some lore concerns, which the developers quickly contradicted, the fans were able to live well with this change.
However, part of the player complained that Ciri was not attractive enough, especially compared to her old model. Some looked too old for some, others even described their facial structure as too male. In the trailer you can get your own picture again:

All just a question of light
This is new now: On February 26, 2025, a 10-minute “Behind the Scenes” was published on the official YouTube account for The Witcher, in which the developers provide insights into the production of the trailer.
The video met with plenty of encouragement from the fans. Some particularly emphasize a detail: the supposedly changed look of Ciri. The “new” face of the witchiner is discussed in countless videos and posts.
In a video with almost 30,000 calls, a Youtuber claims that Ciri was clearly revised. The new version would be “absolutely stunning” (via YouTube). A post entitled “New Face Version of Ciri for the Witcher” has more than 6,500 upvotes on Reddit. A user raves underneath: Now she would look like Ciri.
Some even believed that the developers had given in to the “pressure” of the gamers and made Ciri more attractive.
The praise apparently comes as a surprise to the developers, because they say that they have not changed anything.
This is the official announcement: Sebastian Kalemba, Game Director of The Witcher 4, created clarity. On February 27, 2025, he explained to X:
The “Behind the Scenes” video shows the same in-game model from Ciri, as can also be seen in the original trailer. We didn’t work on it. What you see is raw material – without facial animations, exposure or virtual camera lenses.
Kalemba further explains that the new recordings would show the model without the “cinematic accents” that were used in the finished trailer. The deviations are a natural part of the development – at that time the appearance of the characters could vary depending on the medium. However, this should no longer be the case for the in-game cinematics.
It is precisely these cinematic effects that it is well owed that the trailer looks almost like a small short film. Those responsible paid attention to every detail.
