Roland Emmerich is primarily known for his disaster films, starting with The Day after Tomorrow up to 2012. He is also happy to mix fantastic creatures, as Godzilla and Independence Day show. With the midway published in 2019 – for freedom, he embedds his destruction cinema in a true story.
As the title already suggests, the war film tells the story of the Battle for Midway. Specifically, this is a naval battle in World War II, which was held from June June 7, 1942. American soldiers fought against the Japanese Navy in the Midway Islands in the Pacific.

The battle for Midway is as crucial turning point entered into the history books in the Pacific War. Emmerich is based on the real events in the cinematic implementation, but also relies on the possibilities of blockbuster cinema and transforms Midway-for freedom into a war film epic.
The film was not successful in the cinema. With a considerable budget of $ 100 million (without marketing costs), Midway was able to record only $ 127 million for freedom.
