Hospital COVID 19 testing center closed

The COVID-19 Assessment Center at Norfolk General Hospital has closed.

The centre, which processed 19,635 tests for COVID-19 since October 2020, administered its last test on April 22. Eligible residents will continue to have access to COVID-19 testing in a variety of locations in Haldimand and Norfolk. Testing locations can be found at www.covid-19.ontario.ca/assessment-centre-locations .

“The NGH COVID-19 Assessment Center has played a crucial role in Norfolk County’s pandemic response and we are grateful for the tremendous partnership and support of the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit, the Norfolk Family Health Team, and our other community partners,” Jennifer Edwards, director of Quality, Clinical Practice and Infection Prevention and Control, at NGH, said in a media release. “We’re grateful for the assessment center team who played a historic role in protecting the health and safety of our staff, patients, and community members.”

Residents with COVID-19 symptoms should presume to be infected with the virus and should initiate timely self-isolation to prevent transmission in the community, she added.
